Hall Of Fame Game

So we start off the season (and this blog) with the first preseason game. But before getting into the preseason game, let's look at the events leading up to this point.

Coming off of the Superbowl win in Detroit, nobody was prepared for the 8-8 season that was endured last season. Then the offseason saw the departure of the teams leader, Coach Cowher. Next came the hunt for a new coach which kept most of Steelernation glued to any and every news outlet they could find. After letting Ken Whisenhut and Russ Grimm head for the desert, Dan Rooney let us all know Mike Tomlin was his man. Uncertainty swirled around the decision, but it's hard to argue with a Rooney coaching decision. And in one final blow, the emotional leader of the team, Joey Porter moved to South Florida.

Heading into Sundays Hall of Game, there were many questions and few answers as to what the 2007 season has in store for the Steelers. Of course we all know that you can't judge a team based on preseason football. So much can in will change in the coming weeks. Players cut, plays cut, plays added, injuries etc, etc, etc.

So Steelernation can't get excited over ONE preseason game right?

WRONG WRONG WRONG

Big Ben's 73 yard pass to Wilson on the opening drive was something to get excited about!

Davenport ending the drive with a 4 yard rumble into the end zone was certainly something to get excited about!

William Gay lit up Robert Meachum and later picked off a pass, I'm excited!

Carey Davis had 100 all purpose yards in the game. And did you see him plowing through would-be tacklers?!?! Steelernation should be excited!

So we had plenty to be excited about. But Steelers fans are smart fans. We know this is just the preseason, but we also know that we liked what we saw last night. A hard hitting team is what we love and that's just what we saw last night. We saw hard hits on offense and defense. We saw our team control the ball nearly 11 minutes longer than our opponent. We saw a Steelers team that was excited. Most importantly, we saw a Steelers team that had it's swagger back!
